Pescaderia is considered a hidden gem a bit outside of Centro San Miguel. This restaurant features fresh seafood dishes, including their famous ceviche, which is a must-try! Or try the local catch, prepared whole and served family-style. If you’re looking for dessert, it’s a short taxi ride to the nearby Kakao Chocolate Factory. If you love food, you’ll be happy to learn that Cozumel has some fabulous places to eat.

San Miguel Church and Town Square

You can take a ferry to the mainland at the San Miguel Passenger Ferry Pier in downtown San Miguel. Tickets cost between around 12 US dollar per adult and 7 US dollar per child. All these beaches are perfect to enjoy the clear waters, the tropical weather and nature and to relax under the sun. Traditionally, stores are open from 9 to 1 (except Sunday) and 5 to 9, but those nearest the pier tend to stay open all day, particularly during high season.

Located right next to downtown San Miguel, the Punta Langosta Pier serves as the island’s top cruise port. Tipping is not mandatory in Cozumel but is appreciated for good service. In restaurants, a small tip of around 10-15% of the total bill for good service is customary. It’s also common to tip hotel staff and taxi drivers for good service, with a small amount per day or ride being appropriate.

Cozumel, Mexico

Across the three you have a number of options, most of which fit into the party atmosphere. They usually serve bar food and Tex-Mex staples, have lots of tropical, fruity drinks, and the music is often pumping. For instance, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, Fat Tuesday, and Senor Frog’s all have locations within the port areas. So, go ahead and explore this charming destination at your own pace. Don’t worry about cab fares, or rental car driving rules, or crazy crowds at the various tours. Beautiful remote beaches stretch far beyond the vicinity of downtown and the Cozumel Cruise Pier Terminals.

A day pass includes all of your food and drink as well as access to their two pools, beach palapas, and activities such as kayaking, water sports, and more. You can even add on horseback riding, parasailing, and the use of a wave runner. Pancho’s Backyard, in the heart of downtown San Miguel, is adjacent to Los Cinco Solas shopping arcade. The decor is traditional Mexican style with woven leather seats and bright colors. Just keeping walking north along the waterfront and you’ll find Pancho’s Backyard. After you leave your ship, you’ll find a lush garden full of flowers and plants and the most extensive shopping mall out of all three ports.

There are at least 50 shops plus pop-up kiosk-type vendor stands. You’ll probably dock here if you’re cruising with Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. Leaving the ship, kiosks and vendors will filter you through the Punta Langosta Mall full of shops and restaurants. Almost all Norwegian Cruise Line ships will dock here, assuming there’s space.

The list of amenities also includes a swim-up bar, beach bar, public restrooms, outdoor showers (freshwater), beach hammocks, palapas umbrellas, English-speaking staff, lounge chairs. In December 2020, Quintana Roo media reported that a new (USD 10 pp) tourist tax on foreigners goes into effect since April 1, 2021. Details on how it will be collected or will it be applied also to cruise ship tourists were not revealed.

Souvenir shops, artisan workshops, boutiques, and gift stores are scattered throughout the island, so you’ll have plenty of options to pick up those popular items you’ve been eyeing. Be sure to leave some time to taste the local flavors from some of the best restaurants in the area, sip a cold margarita while you relax on some of the Caribbean’s best beaches. Visit as soon as you dock or while you’re waiting to board after your day ashore.

There they will learn about the island’s rich history of Mayans and pirates that sailed the Caribbean waters. Many cruisers love to take the 45-minute ferry from Cozumel to Play Del Carmen to check out some great resorts and beaches. I love the weather, people, environment, beaches, and overall vibe. Every time I visit I find something new, so this post will detail some unique and fun experiences you can have at this fantastic stop along your cruise.

However, depending on which port your ship docks at, your walking-distance options will vary a little. These Cozumel attractions are all close enough to ensure you’ll always make it back to your cruise ship to get back on board with time to spare. If you’re looking to connect with nature, consider a visit to Punta Sur Eco Beach Park. Situated at the southernmost point of the island, this natural coastal paradise is a bit of a drive from the ports. If you’re seeking a peaceful island getaway away from the crowds, you might want to consider a visit to Passion Island. To reach the island, you’ll need to purchase an all-inclusive day pass.

If you want to feel like a pirate for the day and get some great food along with some unique entertainment this is the activity for you. I’ve read some rave reviews about the Jean Laffite Pirate Dinner Cruise but have not checked it out myself. But for most cruises this option will take place too late in the day, so it’s really only doable if you are staying in Cozumel for a few nights. It goes from 6pm to 9pm, but I still wanted to put it in this list. If you rent a vehicle you can just drive around to see the different beaches to see which is best for what you want your beach day to be like.

Local musicians play the sounds of Mexico for a fantastic ambiance. Instead, there are usually three people quietly playing guitar and accompanying instruments. When you only have one day to spare, it’s helpful to know exactly where to eat in Cozumel. If you need any drugstore items, there is at least one pharmacy in the mall. Though nearly a 3,000 year-old civilization, Cozumel was a commercial and ceremonial center during the classic Mayan period about 250 to 900 A.D.

The Money Bar Beach Club is a small beachfront bar, which means you’ll need to buy something at the restaurant to enjoy the beach and its amenities. Despite this, a big benefit of eastern beaches is that they are much quieter, making them an excellent choice for those seeking to evade the hustle and bustle of cruise ship crowds. All the beaches in Cozumel are open to the public, although some beaches have an entrance fee if there’s a beach club nearby. The international pier is located approximately 3 miles (5 kilometers) from San Miguel.
